Websites are intricate entities, and numerous things can go wrong. Here’s a table summarizing some of the most common errors we encounter with Joomla and WordPress websites, along with their causes:

Error Cause
Outdated versions Joomla and WordPress frequently release updates with new features and security patches. Neglecting these updates can expose your website to potential issues.
Incorrect file permissions Incorrect file permissions can lead to various problems, from login issues to errors when accessing certain pages.
Incompatible plugins and themes Using plugins or themes incompatible with the current version of Joomla or WordPress can result in broken pages and security vulnerabilities.

  • Ensure file permissions are correctly configured to prevent access issues and errors.
  • Use plugins and themes that are compatible with your version of Joomla to prevent broken pages and security vulnerabilities.

Fixing Common Joomla Errors

Even with the best preventive measures, errors can still occur. Here’s how to troubleshoot the most common ones:

  • 404 errors: Check your URLs and links for any typos or incorrect paths.
  • 500 errors: These are often server-related. Contact your hosting provider for assistance.
  • 503 errors: These usually indicate server unavailability. It could be a temporary issue, but if it persists, contact your hosting provider.

Backing Up Your Joomla Website

Regular backups are crucial in preventing data loss. Here’s a simple guide on how to back up your Joomla site:

  • Log in to your Joomla administration panel.
  • Go to ‘System’ and then ‘Global Configuration’.
  • Under the ‘Server’ tab, find the ‘Path to Log Folder’ and ‘Path to Temp Folder’. Note these down.
  • Use an FTP client to download these folders, as well as all your Joomla files.
  • Export your database using phpMyAdmin or a similar tool.

Remember to perform backups regularly and before any major changes to your site.

Brett helped me set up my very first website. It was a big step for me...and I am very happy with the result!!! Throughout the process he was honest with his feedback and gave me ideas of how to improve my impact, integrating some amazing AI tools. Brett is efficient, and his communication is a strength. He is technically savvy, but the best part is that he has a "no fuss" practical approach. I highly recommend him as it seems he can build just about anything. Brett is an expert in website design, and I would be happy to provide further references for him.

We are running a Joomla website that was several versions down-level, our commercial server service had an issue during a conversion. and we were unable to get into the back-end of our site. Several 'Joomla experts' later it still wasn't fixed. We ran across Revibe Digital and Brett during a Google search and Brett told us he could help us. Brett was true to his word and our website was up and running again. We were amazed at how quickly he fixed the site, it's not easy when you are a half a world away to coordinate passwords and others parameters. Brett also treated us like we were family when it came to the billing for his work. I was blown away at how reasonable his charges were. If you are looking for an extremely competent Software Engineer that knows his product line then look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend you contact Brett at Revibe Digital no matter where in the world you reside. Thank you very much Brett.

Great work! We hired Revibe to finish up a Joomla project begun by another firm that was not going well. With a minimum of direction, they jumped in right away and took care of all outstanding tasks, exactly as we asked for. It was quite a thrill to watch a firm move so quickly and understand what was needed with only two emails of explanation. In addition, pricing was very fair. Our only regret is that we didn't start with Revibe to begin with. Highly recommended!
